The Approach mode ranks every runway at your destination by headwind, crosswind, length and gust factor. Telemetry isn't a one-way street. FSXFollow uses the same UDP socket to send commands back — landing gear, flaps, autopilot, parking brake, lights, thrust ±. Useful when your hands are off the yoke and the iPad's the closest thing. The connection is scene-phase aware and auto-reconnects. If you background the app on iOS, telemetry suspends cleanly and resumes when you come back.

**Which Apple devices are supported?**
A single universal app runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac. The Mac build adds a proper menu bar with Cmd+1…Cmd+9 mode shortcuts.

**Do I need a Windows PC?**
If you fly Microsoft Flight Simulator, FSX, FS2004 or Prepar3D, yes — our small free Windows client connects to SimConnect and routes telemetry to FSXFollow. X-Plane 11 and 12 work without any extra Windows software, since X-Plane publishes data natively.

**Does my Apple device need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as my PC?**
No. FSXFollow uses an internet-relayed session, so you can track your flight from the next room or another house. There are no IP addresses to type and no LAN configuration.

**Where does the weather come from?**
Live METAR and TAF are fetched on demand from aviationweather.gov and cached for ten minutes. An on-device ML pass scans the raw METAR for hazards (thunderstorms, freezing precipitation, wind shear, gust factor) and turns them into plain-English landing tips.

**Does it work with VATSIM or other multiplayer networks?**
Yes. FSXFollow reads your aircraft state straight from the simulator, so it's network-agnostic — VATSIM, IVAO, PilotEdge, single-player, any of them. VATSIM live traffic can also be overlaid on the Pilot Map and Radar as orange aircraft icons with callsigns, refreshed every 15 seconds from the VATSIM v3 feed.

**How much does FSXFollow cost?**
FSXFollow is a paid app on the App Store. The Windows client for MSFS, FSX, FS2004 and Prepar3D is a free download from this site.

**What happens when I background the app?**

### Why FSXFollow exists

In 2010, my girlfriend bought me an iPhone 3GS. The very first thing I did was search the App Store for a Microsoft Flight Simulator companion. There wasn't one — so I built it myself.

FSXFollow shipped that year as the first FSX flight tracker on iOS. Fifteen years later it's still going strong, now rebuilt from the ground up for MSFS 2024 with live cockpit panels, VATSIM traffic, a real MCDU, and a route planner. Same project, same one developer — still flying.

### FSXFollow Client for Windows

**Required for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 users.** This client connects MSFS 2024 to the FSXFollow ecosystem via SimConnect.

If you are using X-Plane 11/12, your simulator handles tracking natively or via plugin — no separate Windows client is required.

- **Cruise** — live narration of the area below your aircraft using on-device reverse geocoding and Apple's Foundation Models on iOS 26+.
- **Airports** — search 79,000 worldwide airports by ICAO, IATA or name. Each detail page shows runways, frequencies, a labeled hybrid map with white runway polylines, the current METAR, and a per-runway 3D satellite preview.

- **Passenger IFE** — cabin-style flight display with a cloud-dodger mini-game (Game Center leaderboards).

Native app for controlling a Märklin Central Station 2 or CS3 over a local network. Drive locomotives, flip turnouts, build routes, visualise your track diagram, and automate your layout — on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. No cloud. No subscription.
